Pat Newell, one of our all-star volunteers, was featured in Cascadia Daily News's weekly community profile last week. For over a decade and a half, Pat has been a dedicated volunteer, bringing warmth, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to our organization. Her weekly routine includes packing groceries for home deliveries on Mondays and checking in community members during Tuesday distributions. But for Pat, volunteering is more than a task – it's a calling.
"If you volunteer, then you volunteer," Pat is quoted in the article. "You don't say, 'Oh, I'll only do this or only do that.'" This philosophy has made her a beloved figure at our food bank, where she now knows every shopper who walks through our doors.
Originally from Arkansas City, Kansas, Pat moved to Maple Falls 24 years ago. She sees her volunteer work as a way to connect with her community: "This is my way of meeting my neighbors," she explains. "I love that I can make somebody else feel good. That's my purpose." Her kindness and dedication continue to inspire everyone at Foothills Food Bank.
Thank you, Pat, for your incredible service to our community!
